Bridgwater 114 Wellington 68
For the second time this season Wellington put Bridgwater under the cosh with the ball in T20 action, but as was the case back in May during the National Club T20 round robin that was hosted at The Parks it was the home side’s bowling strengths that won through, this time in the Quarter Finals of the Somerset Cricket Board’s Major Knockout Cup.
Bridgwater opted to bat first and amassed only 114 runs in 19.1 overs as Wellington put in a grand shift with all five bowlers tasting success as Arron Campbell and Luke Desave removed both openers for just five runs.
Moyse with 22 and Davis with 25 made a repair job, but other than C.Skidmore’s 36 there was little of substance from the home side’s lower order.
Arron Campbell with 3-12 and Jack Beal with 3-29 lead the Red and Blacks effort with the ball and there was success for Luke Desave, Will Derrick and Rob Moysey too with Ben Evett taking three wicket keeping dismissals and Tom Chambers and Macaulay Campbell each taking good outfield catches.
Ben Evett’s dynamic 20 and Arron Campbell’s robust 14 were Wellington’s best offering with the bat as Habberfield with 5-20 was the pick of a good Bridgwater bowling show as they moved on to the semi finals with a 46 run win and 2.3 overs to spare.
Wellington can look back on their 2019 competitive T20 season as been one of success with wins across the Baker Cup and the Somerset Cricket Board Major and Minor Knockout Cups over Taunton Deane A, Taunton, North Petherton and Brompton Ralph.
