Wellington 150 North Petherton 152-4

Wellington closed the first half of their season in the West of England Premier League’s Somerset Division with a six wicket home defeat against an improving North Petherton side.

Choosing to bat first in fine weather and hot temperatures saw Tom Chambers and Neil Hendy put on 51 opening wicket runs with Chambers hitting 19 and Hendy 27 before both were out on this score.

Sam Whitefield added a pleasant knock of 25 and Ben Evett did same with 20, but both were out by the time the score had reached 104 and from then on Wellington were all out for 150 with three overs going unused as former Wellington player Paul Short took 4-37 in ten good overs of off spin and Petherton’s overseas player Asif sent down his ten overs for just six runs.

Rob Moysey with 19 and Ollie Wilkins with 13 made valuable late runs for Wellington.

For Petherton Owen Irish and Lewis Knight opened in a flurry of activity as they added 32 in quick time before Luke Desave struck.

Knight made it to 46 before been out caught by Will Derrick off of Neil Hendy’s accurate medium pacers that went for just 21 in ten overs.

Asif with 47 studious runs was the rock that saw Petherton over the line and they did this with a dozen or so overs to spare despite Sam Whitefield and Rob Moysey taking a wicket each.
