Weston Super Mare 3rd XI 148 Wellington 2nd XI 148
Wellington 2nd XI are in sixth place in Division Five of the Somerset League after this last ball tie with Weston Super Mare 3rd XI at home on Saturday when the teams each collected 25 points.
WSM opted to bat on winning the toss and Bemand with 53 and Austin with 44 got them to a position where they were 133-4 when Austin was dismissed, but this was the cue for a collapse as Rob Moysey took 6-33 all told as the visitors crumbled to 148 all out; earlier Macaulay Campbell had taken 2-30 in nine good overs.
The Wellington second string’s chase on the 149 to win was not to be straightforward as they lost three wickets by the time the score had reached 24, but Mark Salter’s fine 48 and 26 from Sam Wooster got the side back on track before another flurry of wickets ensued to set Wellington at 125-8.
However some fine play from Jason Harris who made 22 runs just at the right time ignited Wellington’s victory charge once more, but when he was run out it was left to last pair Macaulay Campbell and Alex Troake to do the job and they got it down to needing two from the last ball to win; one run was made, but Campbell was run out going for the winning run, but parity was gained all the same and that was a good thing.
