Wellington 3rd XI 306-4 Huish and Langport 2nd XI 156
Wellington 3rd XI comprehensively beat bottom side Huish and Langport 2nd XI in the Somerset League’s Division Seven South last weekend and are sixth in the table as a result.
Wellington batted first and saw Simon Burrough and David Derrick add 11 to the board, but at 25-2 both were back in the hutch by then.
This set the scene for Des Campbell and Jacob Hurry to add a magnificent 166 runs for the third Wellington wicket as Campbell struck an imperious 117 and teenager Hurry a splendid 30 as he flourished in this fine knock.
Campbell hit the ball cleanly and robustly in what was a capital knock for the Red and Blacks third string.
After both had been dismissed Dave Luxton with 37no and Darren Davis with 68no hoisted Wellington to a fine final total of 306-4 as they played well and saw the momentum was carried through to the end.
Huish and Langport 2nd XI are having a tough season, but they batted well here and very nearly saw out their full allocation of overs as Larkins with 20, C.Dawson-Bishop with 38 and Foyne with 26 made good runs.
Wellington had to work hard to get their hands on full bowling bonus points as Ryan Henwood and Tom Shannon did good work with the new ball.
Alex Derbridge with 3-32 in eight good overs prised out the middle order with his off spinners and Tyler Fyfe’s left arm seam was in the right place too.
Connor Wickenden’s slow left armers were rewarded when he bowled P.Dawson-Bishop before Foyne dropped anchor and became hard to dismiss.
It took Darren Davis with 2-11 in 5.4 overs and a wicket for Des Campbell to end matters to give Wellington’s third string 35 points to the home side’s 11.
