Holford 131-9 Wellington 2nd XI 49

Wellington 2nd XI could not emulate the 1st XI’s Somerset Cricket Board Knockout Cup success from the previous evening when the current West Somerset League Champions at both League and Cup level Holford left Courtland Road with the honours in this Minor Cup match that had been put back twice in the last week due to the poor weather.

Wellington asked Holford to bat first and the run out of N.Buller seemed to set the Red and Blacks second string on their way, but a decent second wicket stand of 41 from Webber (36) and T.Buller (18) got the visitors into a groove, but Rob Moysey with 3-10 in four overs all told with a good two overs delivered late on wrested control of the game.

Andy Groves and Andy Hurry took a wicket each as H.Buller’s 28 was the other notable contribution of a Holford innings that totalled 131-9 after 20 overs.

Wellington were tasked with having to make 132 to win and secure a Quarter Final place, but Holford gave them no quarter as they sent the home side sliding to 24-5 with only Mark Salter’s 13 holding things together.

Sam Wooster with 12no was the other Wellington player with double figures to their name, but all in all Holford were in the ascendancy and won well in the end with three run outs to boot.
