Bridgwater 2nd XI 167 Wellington 153
Wellington stay a very healthy fourth in the Somerset Divison of the West of England Premier League despite this 14 run defeat at Bridgwater last Saturday when the home side’s 2nd XI just had enough to see off the Red and Blacks run chase.
On winning the toss Arron Campbell asked Bridgwater to bat first and there was an early strike as Luke Desave had Clapp caught behind by Aks Latifi with the score on just five, but a second wicket stand of 53 between Court and J.Hill saw the home side recover.
At this point Will Derrick took two wickets in his first over and this set the home side back once more.
The difference between the two sides was Singleton’s knock of 72 in 46 balls as he played with power hitting seven sixes.
The tail was cleaned up once he had been removed through Tom Chambers catch off of Luke Desave who took 3-25 in 8.4 overs, wickets also came the way of Arron Campbell, Sam Whitefield and Neil Hendy as Wellington despatched Bridgwater in 35.4 overs.
Wellington needed to score at around 3 an over to take the game and having lost a wicket at 11 Tom Chambers and Sam Whitefield added 41 second wicket runs together with Chambers having made a good 27.
Whitefield made a capital 30 before been third out with the score on 74.
Arron Campbell (18) and Luke Desave (20) got together and added 27 for the fifth wicket before the home side started to come back into the game and saw that Wellington were 122-8 when vice captain Desave was out, but some enterprising play from Ollie Wilkins (8), Lewis Sparks (12no) and Will Derrick (5) took Wellington close as they made another 31 runs for the last two wickets, but the end came with two overs left as T.Hill got Derrick’s wicket.
Clapp with 3-30 in ten overs was the mainstay of the Bridgwater 2nd XI attack on the day as they took 17 points to go second compared with seven for Wellington who are two places back.
