Castle Cary 2nd XI 200-8 Wellington 3rd XI 164

Wellington 3rd XI played at Sampford Arundel CC for the first time this season in Division Seven South of the Somerset League on Bank Holiday Saturday and narrowly lost to Castle Cary 2nd XI who had made their longest journey of the season.

On winning the toss Wellington asked Cary to take first knock and Ryan Henwood struck early to see the back of Clulee, but Chaudoir with a solid 57 and Lane with 36 saw that Cary would approach and then pass the hundred mark with just two wickets down, but Wellington’s third string fought back well with Tyler Fyfe taking 2-27 in eight overs delivered in two spells, Alex Derbridge with 2-39 in eight good overs of off spin did a good job and Simon White’s 2-42 in eight overs saw that Cary’s progress was checked in Wellington’s favour.

Their skipper Wadman hit 40no late on and this was the telling late order effort for the visitors as they secured full batting points off of the last ball of their innings.

Wellington opened up with David Derrick and Ollie Wilkins and they had 81 on the board in just nine overs as Wilkins smote 61 in no time with some crisp hitting and with Derrick making a good 19 the Red and Blacks were in good form first up, but when Derrick was first out the momentum was lost a little, however skipper Des Campbell, who made 30no in the end, and Simon White with 16 reignited Wellington’s chase and had got to within 37 of the target when the innings closed seeing that 16 points stayed with the home side and 35 went north with Cary.
