Wellington U15 126-6 Staplegrove U15 119-6
Wellington’s senior youth side got their TDYCL season off to a flyer with a hard fought seven run success on Sunday morning when they travelled to near neighbours Staplegrove.
Having been inserted, Wellington openers Alex Derbidge and Ben Wardell took the score to 22 before Derbridge was run out for 8, bringing Callum Hendy to the crease.
This led to the main stand of the innings with 60 runs added before Wardell departed for a top score 33 and only 6 runs later Hendy departed for 30.
Max Brodie (2), Ollie Hunt (13) and Tom Shannon (7) added late order runs and with not out batsmen James Weymouth and Callum Kinnear a total of 126-6 was posted.
The ‘Grove wickets were spread around and a generous donation of 31 extras left Wellington well placed.
The hosts were always behind the run rate as Hunt (2 for 14 from 4 overs) Shannon (2 for 2 from 2 overs) and Derbridge (1-22) bowled tidily and at 54 – 5 Staplegrove were up against it.
A sixth wicket stand of 51 as Toby (21 no) and Ryan (32) in good time put the result in doubt before Weymouth (1 for 4) bowled Ryan and the visitors held on for a seven run success and bring Wellington, as a Club, it’s first success of the weekend.
