Wellington 2nd XI 160 Cranmore 161-4
Wellington 2nd XI commenced life in Division Five of the Somerset League with a six wicket defeat at home to Cranmore last weekend when a late order batting collapse saw a good position was not developed as desired.
Cranmore opted to ask Wellington to bat first and a fine 65 run opening stand between Trevor Brooks and Callum Hendy started matters positively for the Red and Blacks second string; Brooks was first to depart for 24 as A.Pang, on his way to 5-24 in nine fine overs, had him caught.
Hendy made a fabulous 32 and played a composed and confident knock; well done in all aspects here.
Ryan Adams with 21 also did well and at 118-3 Wellington were looking at a good score with Thom Trott playing well as he closed in on a half century, but some of the issues of 2018 resurfaced as the score dipped from 118-3 to 139-9 and the momentum was lost.
Trott continued with last batter Sheldon Hancock and they added a fine 21 runs for the last wicket and so got the Wellington score to 160 with Trott making 46.
Cranmore were solid in their chase of the 161 that they needed and with White making 14, Angell 25 and J.Keene 37 they were on their way despite George Coate taking 2-23 in nine fine overs.
Ryan Adams with 1-17 in nine overs was accurate in the middle part of the Cranmore innings and with Sam Murdock, back with the Club after a few years away, taking 1-30 in seven overs Cranmore needed all but three of their allocation of 45 overs to get over the line, but they did just that and took 35 points to Wellington’s 12.
