Bridgwater 151-8 Wellington 49
After taking North Petherton for 228 in 20 overs and then despatching them for just 55 to start the day Bridgwater were in awesome form going into the day’s third game and Wellington opted to ask them to bat first once more on winning the toss through Arron Campbell’s correct call of the coin.
The start was sensational as Wellington reduced the home side to 6-4 as each of Halleran, Skidmore, Oakes and centurion from the earlier game Butt were all back in the hutch as Arron Campbell and Luke Desave struck and struck hard and were backed by some fine catching and outfielding too.
Had Somerset T20 player Max Waller, who plays his club cricket with Bridgwater, been given out when he was the subject of a mighty close LBW call then the hosts would have been 6-5 and who knows…
However Waller with 34 saw a home recovery was engineered, but Wellington kept apace with Bridgwater and kept them to 112-8 before Court with 29no and Singleton with 18no saw them to over 150 in their 20 over allocation.
Arron Campbell with 3-21, Luke Desave with 2-26 and Will Derrick with 2-37 in each of four overs were successful with Gus Steele taking the other wicket.
Bridgwater came at Wellington hard and Max Waller bowled his quick leg spinners to great effect as he took two wickets with the first three balls of the Wellington innings.
With Rossiter taking 4-17 Wellington were always under pressure and in the end were all out for 49 in 12.4 overs to see that Bridgwater would progress to the second WEPL group stage next month.
Wellington can be most proud of their efforts in this matter and thanks go to Bridgwater CC for laying on a fine day of cricket and hospitality and to the good number of Red and Blacks supporters who attended and cheered the team on.
Thanks also to North Petherton CC for their contribution to the day and to the weather gods for delivering a clear and sunny, if nippy, day for the event to take place in.
