Wellington U13 43 Taunton Deane Sabres 47-4
Wellington U13 had a tricky first match as they opened their youth fixtures on Friday evening when Taunton Deane Sabres visited The Playing Field.
James Weymouth elected to bat on winning the toss and this looked to be a good decision as Callum Kinnear and Tom Hopkins looked to run quickly and get the scoreboard ticking over.
Callum was first out having made 16 and when Tom was out for a top score of 17 the innings imploded as extras became the next highest score in a total of 43 all out leaving 7 overs unused.
The home side were much better in the field as Oliver Hansard and Kinnear bowled with good pace as only 17 runs were conceded after 4 overs.
Lewie Harrison and Weymouth took over the bowling duties and 3 quick wickets reduced the visitors to 30-3 and when this became 34-4 with a wicket for Harry Clarke-Hawkins an upset looked possible.
The Deane batsmen then finished it off with a flurry of boundaries for a 6 wicket win and 10 overs to spare.
Whilst Wellington never looked like starting the season with a victory if they had managed to use all of their allotted overs and scored at the rate they did they would surely have made a better fist of it and this should stand them in good stead for the rest of the season.
