Wells 112 Wellington 78
Wellington were in a good position to get to the final match of the Somerset Cricket Board’s County Indoor League Finals Day that was held at Somerset CCC last Sunday afternoon as they made 50 in four overs of their reply to Wells final score of 112, but the opposition’s first change attack ripped through the Red and Blacks to win by 34 runs in the end with four overs going unused.
Wells had won SCB’s Glastonbury based league and Wellington had won SCB’s SCCC based league and were joined in the other semi final by Crewkerne based winners North Perrott and SCCC based second placed team Wembdon.
Wellington opted to bowl first on winning the toss and Jack Beal was in good form across his three overs as he took 1-13 to be accurate and tidy throughout.
Arron Campbell and Neil Hendy were in good form too as a fine knock of 40 from D.Stacey saw Wells make a few more than Wellington would have wanted, but 113 to win was achievable.
Arron Campbell and Luke Desave got Wellington off to a belting start with 47 on the board in four overs before Desave was bowled for a well made 17; Campbell retired at 25 to give Wellington a man who could come back to the crease if required.
The run out of Mark Bray for 13 and the subsequent loss of Jack Beal and Ryan Adams saw Wellington’s innings become a much tougher affair than was envisaged and it was down to skipper Campbell to take his side home.
He made an eventual 33 before been caught behind and Wells were through to the final match.
North Perrott beat Wembdon in the other semi final and it was a case of the two teams who didn’t play at SCCC in regular indoor competition this winter who would take each other on for the right to be Somerset’s representative in the National Indoor Competition next month and it was Perrott who will take on this role.
