Lydford 2nd XI 201-5 Wellington 3rd XI 106
Wellington 3rd XI’s season in Division Seven South of the Somerset League ended with bottom side Lydford 2nd XI completing the double, but it has been a good season for the side who ended in fifth place overall.
Wellington won the toss and asked the home side to bat on a green wicket and there was success early on for Olly Hunt as he removed J.Robertson for just one as he produced a fine delivery to bowl him all ends up.
A steepling catch that was well taken by Ryan Henwood gave Tyler Fyfe some success and at 32-2 Lydford were struggling.
They battled back with Barnes making 75 in fine style, but he did benefit from been dropped as did his partner Fowler in adding 76 runs for the third Lydford wicket.
In a good show with the ball Tom Shannon with 2-18 in eight overs found himself on a hat-trick and Ryan Henwood did get Barnes out, but with Spencer’s 33no to add to it Lydford’s total was over 200 at tea and this was going to be hard to chase down; it needed a good start when Wellington’s third string batted.
Richard Henwood and Simon White did start well and were closing in on a half-century stand when Henwood was run out for a dashing 30 and then the collapse came as from 45-0 in nine overs the team were all out for the addition of only 51 runs in 15.1 overs.
White with 26 did well, but needed a partner to stay with him and this did not take place although Rob Hunt did strike the ball well to the boundary and Alex Derbridge, David Derrick and Connor Wickenden all did enough to see that their side got past 100, but the game was up when Derbridge was out for 14.
2018 has been a decent season for the side and it can look forward with confidence in the knowledge that it is performing the correct role for the Club.
