Wellington CC Past Players XI v Wellington CC President’s XI 2018

The evening of Thursday 16th August saw the third meeting of Wellington Cricket Club’s Past Players Association XI and a Club President’s XI in a T20 format game and the outcome was a first win for the PPA, by eight wickets.

Prior to the game Association President Keith Colman and Team Captain Tim Salter both spoke on the meaning of the game to the Association and that it was a chance to bring together all that is good about the Club’s past and to remember those who are no longer with us; a minute’s silence was held in this respect.

On to the game itself and the President’s XI, captained by Club Chairman Mark Salter, batted first and found the going tough against some good PPA bowling particularly from Steve Foster whose left arm spinners took 3-12 in three overs.

A recovery was staged by Alex Sparks with 43, Mark Holloway with 21no and Mark Salter as the President’s XI got to 100-7.

The PPA XI lost a wicket in the early stages of their reply, but did not look back from there as Bryan Churchill with 37 and Clive Jones with 38no saw that the game would be won in the last over.

The joint winners of the Neil Fullstone Trophy which is awarded to the PPA XI Man of the Match were Bryan Churchill and Steve Foster.

Thanks for this event taking place go to Duncan Short, Tim Salter and the PPA Officers for overseeing the provision of the two competing sides, to Des and Andy Campbell for providing the ground works to get an extra game on at what is a busy end of season time for them, Trevor and Trudy Brooks who ran the bar for the evening, to David Derrick for scoring the game, to Ashley Colman and Paul Rowlandson who ran an excellent BBQ that saw all items sold and so made a useful input to Association funds and to Clare and Tony Hutchings for loaning their BBQ unit to the Club for a third time this season.
