Wellington 141 Middlezoy 110
Wellington are well placed in third place in the Premier Division of the Somerset League after completing the season’s double over Middlezoy on the road last weekend and go into their enforced week off due to Ashbrittle’s withdrawal with a keen eye on what goes on next weekend.
With three places in WEPL’s Somerset Division for 2019 at least up for grabs given the situation going into this game ref the dynamic higher up the pyramid a Wellington win was crucial and in a game that lasted only 57.5 of the 90 overs on offer it was a fast paced affair as Middlezoy were asking Wellington to bat first.
At 23-3 Wellington were in a spot of bother, but Oli Beale stepped up and looked at home in the team with a decent knock of 22 with four fours as he worked well with Mark Bray (who made 18) to get Wellington to 64 before Bray was fourth out and his dismissal saw Wellington lose three wickets to be 69-7 as Musgrave with 3-37 and Melmoth with 3-36 did a good job for the home side with the ball.
It was then that Jack Beal was in his element as he counterattacked superbly to crack 42 in 29 balls with six fours and two sixes as he saw the Wellington score rise to a relatively good level and with Pete Sanderson making a solid 18 Wellington’s were in better position for sure.
Will Derrick lifted the ball out of the ground in one last hurrah and Wellington were all out for 141 with 10.1 overs left.
Middlezoy scored quickly, but lost wickets all the time though.
Luke Desave, back to bowling fitness, took a fine 2-20 in nine overs and Jack Beal kept his excellent game going with 3-35 in six overs as no batter from the ‘Zoy had the ability to hang around as their keeper Campbell was their best offering with the bat as he made 22.
Will Derrick with a fine 4-33 in five overs and Arron Campbell with 1-9 in three overs saw that Middlezoy had been rushed out in just 23 overs to give the Red and Blacks a decent 32 point haul to Middlezoy’s 15 and they now take a break and will survey the divisional table after this hiatus has passed by.
