Crewkerne 245-5 Wellington 2nd XI 201

Although suffering another Somerset League Division Four defeat Wellington 2nd XI can take a lot of pride in their attempt to chase down the 246 needed to win at home to Crewkerne last weekend.

After winning the toss the visitors were asked to bat first and were indebted to each of Callow (69), Briggs (59) and J.Gould (55) who hauled their innings forward given that Ian Hewson had made an initial breakthrough with the score on eleven.

Two wickets for Lewis Sparks and Joe Horne pulled matters back late on with Mark Salter pocketing two catches as well as Sparks himself with keeper Callum Hendy completing that aspect of Wellington second string’s time in the field.

Mark Salter and Rob Moysey opened up with a partnership of 35 that was broken when Salter was bowled for 13, but Aks Latifi joined his skipper and got the score into the fifties before another wicket was lost.

A fine 72 run fourth wicket stand between Thom Trott and Joe Horne saw Wellington give the Crewkerne total a really good go at as Trott crafted 64 and Horne a fine 35, but when they were separated as Callow with 3-30 did a good job for Crewkerne the chase became harder and in the end it ran out of puff, but not before last pair Tyler Fyfe and Ryan Henwood had got the team to a tenth batting point to take 15 from the game all told.
