Wellington 2nd XI 181 Uphill Castle 2nd XI 182-6

Wellington 2nd XI, bottom of Division Four of the Somerset League, gave a really good account of themselves in this tough away game against divisional leaders Uphill Castle 2nd XI last Saturday, but despite doing well the home side continued their charge for promotion and dealt Wellington’s second string another defeat.

Wellington were asked to bat first and saw Trevor Brooks and Mark Salter get 21 on the board for the opening wicket before they were separated.

Brooks continued to a fine 38 and he has and is having a decent season with the bat despite the overall travails of the side.

Skipper Rob Moysey with 44 and Mark Bray, another who is scoring well for the side at this time, made 31 and this saw Wellington get to 152-5 when the captain was out, but only Ian Hewson with 13 got to double figures after those just mentioned although the innings ended on a credible 181 all out from the last ball of the innings.

Uphill did lose six wickets getting to the required total, but made it with exactly 15 overs left unused as Holyday with 42 and Lloyd with 38 were their main men; at 131-5 you never knew if Wellington could knock over what remained as Lewis Sparks, Ian Hewson, Tyler Fyfe, Trevor Brooks and Ryan Henwood each strived hard with the ball, but 24no from Biggs and 27 from Chapman sealed the deal for the side from Weston Super Mare and a 52 point lead at the top of the shop was theirs.
