Winscombe 227-8 Wellington 230-5
Wellington returned to winning ways last weekend in the Premier Division of the Somerset League when they completed the season’s double over Winscombe to win by five wickets with a good number of overs to spare, collected 33 points and consolidated fourth place at the same time.
Winscombe won the toss and batted on a hard, white track and saw that Fraser’s 62 was the mainstay score of their innings.
Hall with 33 and Scanlon with 30 were other solid contributors to their good final total of 227-8 which saw Neil Hendy take 3-36 and later on Luke Desave, easing his way back into the attack, and Pete Sanderson took 2-29 each from five and nine overs respectively.
On taking the new ball for the 1st XI for the first time Macaulay Campbell did well and Wellington would need the same sort of score that they needed seven days before to record a sixth win of the season.
Tom Chambers and Neil Hendy are forming a robust partnership at the top of the Wellington order and they posted a 73 run opening stand which was ended when Chambers was out caught for a fine 40.
Hendy made a solid 29, but when he was third out with the score at 86 Wellington were in need of some consolidation and it came in bundles as skipper Arron Campbell stroked 45, his deputy Luke Desave 36 not out and in between them in the batting order was the dynamo that is Ben Evett and he smote 39 at more than a run a ball as the Wellington win was set up and then cashed in as Desave and Thom Trott saw the Red and Blacks home to a fine win in front of many supporters; Winscombe toiled in the field, but Bradley’s 3-35 in nine overs is worthy of mention.
