Wellington 3rd XI 243 Taunton Deane 4th XI 175
Wellington 3rd XI won their third Somerset League Division Seven South match in a row and this was their best win of the season as they won well at Castle School over Taunton Deane’s 4th XI last weekend.
Deane won the toss and asked Wellington’s third string to bat first and Oli Beale and Richard Henwood added 81 first up as the home side’s bowling was wayward.
Henwood’s good 2018 with the bat saw him make 36 and Beale 16, but both were out with the score on 81.
Andy Hurry with 98 (for the second week) was the mainstay of Wellington’s batting as others played well round him; Des Campbell with 13 and Dave Luxton with 11 added good runs with the Somerset CCC Director of Cricket.
Tyler Fyfe was resolute when he batted with Hurry and saw the Wellington score rise to over 200 and it approached 250 as did Hurry’s ton, but off of the last ball of the innings he was bowled two short of glory… Deane’s best bowler had been Batstone with 2-20 in eight overs, three of which had been maidens as Byrnes and Johnson took two apiece late on.
After Dave Luxton had taken a fine catch at slip off of Olly Hunt Parsons with 39 and Chaffey with 27 began to get Deane into a good position as they scored at a healthy rate, but 102-2 became 144-8 as Oli Beale with 4-49 in eight overs and Richard Henwood with 2-29 in same locked down the Deane middle order and exposed the tail for Andy Hurry and Ryan Henwood to finish matters off with good Wellington catching coming to the fore as each of Dave Luxton, Tyler Fyfe and Olly Hunt held on to good efforts as Wellington took a full allocation of 35 points to Deane’s 18.
