Social Activities at Wellington CC on Saturday 14th July

Last weekend saw the sun shone once more and the Saturday (14th July) saw no less than three social events take place at Wellington CC as the Club thanked those who have sponsored it this season as they joined Life Members, Dignitaries and the Club’s Past Players Association for a splendid Lunch event and, later in the day, the PPA held it’s AGM for 2018 and then laid on an Evening Barbecue for all to enjoy.

Sponsors in attendance were Wellington Self Storage, Lyn Financial, Graham Sparks Furniture Restoration, 3D Fire Defence Ltd and Wilkie, May and Tuckwood; many other Sponsors had communicated favourably with the Club at this time too and it was good to see some of these vital ‘cogs in the wheel’ be present along with Town Mayor Gary James and Mayoress Mrs Bee James who were invited to recognise the investment that the Club has received from Wellington Town Council towards its Winter Programme of Youth Coaching over many years now.

It was also pleasing to see many of the Club’s Life Members be present too along with one or two special guests and that the Past Players Association was represented as well.

Club President Duncan Short, who has championed the recruitment and retention of Sponsors this season, and Club Chairman Mark Salter represented the Club on the day and spoke on the subject of what each groups of attendees brings to the fabric of the Club.

Once the formalities were concluded, including the formal unveiling of the ensemble that was donated to the Club in memory of Neil Fullstone last year, a superb two course Lunch was enjoyed by all and this was the result of much work from Amanda Moysey and Sharon Frost who, between them had done all that was required to make the meal available; in addition Trudy Brooks is also thanked for her preparatory work for this event.

After tea in the 1st XI’s game Somerset League Premier Division game with Winscombe CC the Club’s Past Players Association held its AGM for 2018 and members were advised of its outputs for 2017 and 2018’s plans; This meeting usually accompanies a Lunch event, but this was not undertaken in 2018 due to timings and it will be pushed back to its regular May slot for 2019.

A third T20 game against a Club President’s XI is set for Thursday 16th August at WCC and plans to set up both sides are in hand.

The parent Club had received two financial inputs since the last such meeting it was announced and doing so remained a core wish of the Association as and when it was feasible and effective to do so.

Boosting Membership numbers is always an Association aim and to this end the President Keith Colman asked all members to look to introduce a new member between now and 2019 – this could have an exponential effect it was felt…

All Officers were returned as follows as a seventh season of the Association’s operation was allowed for…

President – Keith Colman

Secretary – Matt Colman

Treasurer – Chris Rudd

Committee Members – Ashley Colman and Paul Rowlandson

Once the meeting was concluded the Barbecue Unit (kindly loaned to the Association twice this month by Tony and Clare Hutchings) was fired up and all present enjoyed a burger or two and thanks go to Chris Rudd, Paul Rowlandson, Ashley Colman, Mark Wardell and Rob Hunt for overseeing this aspect of the day most professionally; that all stock sold out is the best way to judge the relative success of this event!

A win for the 1st XI was enjoyed too on what was a most enjoyable and successful day for the Club.
