Sampford Peverell Midweek XI 114 Wellington Midweek XI 117-6

Wellington Midweek XI got their series of social evening T20 games underway last week when they hosted Devon League Division E East side Sampford Peverell when the home side was captained by sixteen year old Oli Beale; one of the youngest players to skipper a senior Red and Blacks side ever it is thought…

Peverell opted to bat first on winning the toss and they were solid in their innings which ended on the last ball of its twenty overs as Crittenden top scored for them with 22.

Tyler Fyfe and Lewis Sparks took the new ball for Wellington and did a good job as they let just 39 runs go in eight overs between them and they took two wickets each… Sparks took the second and the penultimate wickets to fall and Fyfe took numbers one and three to fall.

Good early senior section efforts with the ball have come from both Tom Shannon and Alex Derbridge and their seam and spin shared the middle overs of the Wellington bowling effort and figures of 2-25 and 1-30 were most respectable.

Macaulay Campbell and Oli Beale ended matters with Beale getting a wicket with the last ball of the Peverell innings with Campbell taking two and with Ben Evett putting in a good stint behind the sticks he captured three dismissals – two catches and one stumping to see that Wellington would need 115 to win…

Wellington chased their total well and won with some eight balls to spare with four wickets in hand…

Oli Beale and Ben Evett opened with a 20 run stand that got the required total down below three figures as Beale made 13.

Evett was seeing the ball well until he was caught for 17, but Aks Latifi with 14 and Rob Moysey, using the game to recuperate from his recent shoulder injury that has restricted him recently, with 12 saw Wellington be some half way from their required total.

Lewis Sparks with 29no saw the top score for Wellington on the day and Macaulay Campbell and Charlie Burrough played well for ten each to see Wellington nearly over the line and it was achieved by Sparks and David Derrick in 18.4 overs.

Blake with 2-13 late on had Peverell’s best figures.
