Bagborough U11 282-4 Wellington U11 285-4

Wellington U11s continued their fine run and strengthened their place at the top of the table with a good victory in sweltering conditions at The Rec’ on Sunday morning.

Bagborough made first use of a dry pitch and were soon in trouble as Robin Hill took 2 wickets in his first over and they then made slow progress to reach 225 at the end of the 12th where Hill took his 3rd wicket.

From here on the innings belonged to the visitors as they added 57 runs in the last 8 with only Thomas Knell’s wicket to show for Wellington’s work in the field.

There were good performances with the ball especially debutante George Davis and some good match experience was gained by some of the younger squad members.

Knell was 1st to bat paired with skipper Thomas Hopkins and they added 28 runs in their allotted 4 overs.

Bagborough were then on top with the ball as runs were more difficult to come by,as Flossy Hillman paired with Oscar Milton and Hill and Davis paired together took the score to 251 after 12 overs.

The impetus to the innings was added by keeper Oliver Hutchings as some fine strokes and one drive through mid-off in particular took the hosts to within 8 of victory.

The last 4 overs were a bit nail biting for the parents as some scampered singles and some fine shots by Oliver Buddin led Wellington to victory.

Many thanks to all the squad as Wellington ‘loaned’ Bagborough Liam Buddin, Finch Chant, Daniel Huntley and Alex Acton to make sure some meaningful match cricket was had by all.
