Wiveliscombe U11 183 (16 overs) Wellington U11 267 (16 overs)

Wellington’s U11 team put in a fantastic all round performance when they travelled to near neighbours Wiveliscombe and returned victorious by 84 runs.

The decision to insert the hosts looked to be backfiring as the first 2 pairs accumulated runs at a steady rate to reach 242 without loss at the halfway stage.

Wiveliscombe had  clearly sent out their better batters early and once Liam Buddin got the 1st wicket in the 9th over Wellington began to get on top in the field, and got amongst the wickets.

Thomas Gendall, Lewie Harrison and Oscar Milton lead the way with 3 wickets apiece as 13 wickets were taken in the last 8 overs meaning 78 runs were wiped off the total, leaving the visitors to chase down 183.

The fielding was excellent with Tim Vellacott accomplished in his first game behind the stumps and Oliver Hutchings throwing down the stumps with only one to aim at.

Skipper Thomas Hopkins went out with Harrison to open the innings and led from the front as they added 21 in their allotted overs.

Vellacott and Buddin were next in and took the score to 244 at the halfway stage.

Hutchings and Milton found runs harder to come by  as Wivey’ came back in to the game, but the final pair of Gendall and Atticus Adams, who top scored with 14, put Wellington firmly back in control, and an 84 run victory.

The boys will look to continue this form next Sunday, when they travel to Broadway and Horton.
