Wellington 3rd XI 117-6 Langport 2nd XI 68
Wellington 3rd XI ground out a positive result at Langport in Division Seven South of the Somerset League last weekend and so collected thirty good points as a reward.
Des Campbell chose to bat first and it was he and new recruit Nathan Roberts who opened up for Wellington on a slow and low wicket and they added a good 39 runs before Campbell played on for 19.
Richard Henwood joined Roberts and took the score to 60 before the former was bowled, but young Roberts continued to show good technique in making 31 and it was pleasing to see a young player willing to spend time at the wicket and build an innings.
Dave Luxton with 25no saw Wellington’s third string to a decent enough total of 117-6 in 40 overs at tea as Langport’s attack was accurate throughout; C.Dawson-Bishop with 3-21 was their best operator.
Langport’s batting was brittle and it was only their captain/keeper Foyne with 26no who troubled the Wellington attack.
Richard Henwood and Nathan Robersts took the new ball and returned figures of 2-8 and 1-4 in eight overs each as accuracy was the order of the day.
Connor Wickenden with 3-30 in seven overs bowled his left arm spin well and got amongst Langport’s middle order and it was off spin from Alex Derbridge that saw it would be an away win with his 3-19 in 7.3 overs as Wellington won with ten overs to spare or thereabouts.
