Wellington 2nd XI 108 Uphill Castle 2nd XI 109-4

Wellington 2nd XI’s batting did not hold up for its full allocation of overs once more in Division Four of the Somerset League when Uphill Castle 2nd XI took the points from their visit last weekend.

Uphill won a good toss on a day that saw misty, murky conditions due to the thundery aspect to the weather be prominent and they asked Wellington to bat first.

Despite losing a wicket at 8 Trevor Brooks and Mark Saunders added a near fifty run second wicket stand; Saunders was out LBW for 17 when left arm seamer Jobling (4-25 in nine overs) snared him.

On his departure Joe Horne helped Brooks to get the Wellington score to 76-2 before he was bowled and this precipitated Wellington’s second string to lose their last eight wickets for just 32 runs.

Brooks was exemplary in making 64, but only Andy Hurry with 13no made anything telling in the lower order.

Biggs with 5-10 in six overs of good off spin was wrecker in chief for Weston Super Mare based side Uphill.

With the potential for thunderstorms to come along and wash the game away Uphill were dynamic in their effort with the bat as Frost and Lloyd added 37 first up before Joe Horne got success through Callum Hendy pocketing a catch behind the sticks.

Frost gave Horne his second victim of the game when he found him on the deep square leg boundary and it was 45-2.

Worrall and Uphill skipper Carter made the game safe with their addition of a combined total of 43 runs whilst they were at the crease.

Wickets for Rob Moysey and Andy Hurry came for Wellington, but it was a win for Uphill with 18.2 overs to spare…
