Wellington Sunday XI 247-8 Stogumber Sunday XI 132
This 115 run win for Wellington Sunday XI saw that they keep up their unbeaten start to the 2018 season as they hosted the West Somerset League side last weekend on another pleasant spring day that saw a good numbered crowd take in the day’s play.
Des Campbell with 51 and Richard Henwood with 29 saw that Wellington got away well on winning the toss and opting to bat, but a score of 103-3 saw that the Red and Blacks need to push on once more and it came from Oli Beale and Tyler Fyfe who added a marvellous 122 for the fifth wicket with Beale making a classy 71 and Fyfe a fine 44 as both worked well together.
Fyfe was aided by David Derrick and Arron Campbell in his quest to get to a maiden fifty, but he was out in the last over as Wellington made 247-8 all told.
Fyfe was into the action after tea as he took 3-10 along with Arron Campbell who took one wicket to leave Stogumber’s top order in a bit of a pickle, but Buchanan was always a danger and he unleashed a number of booming shots before been brilliantly caught on the mid wicket boundary by Arron Campbell who took a tumbling catch on the run from Oli Beale; he made 35.
New recruit Ben Meek was pacy and took 1-32 in six good overs on debut and despite a fast and furious knock of 35 from Stogumber skipper Godfrey when he was caught on the mid wicket fence by Rob Moysey the game was up and hands were shaken on a good game played in the right spirit.
