Winscombe 104 Wellington 105-2
Wellington made it two wins out of two in the Premier Division of the Somerset League last weekend when the town heaped more sporting misery on Winscombe by taking an eight wicket win back down the motorway to go with Wellington RFC’s recent County Cup win over their oval ball practitioners.
Arron Campbell won another useful toss and asked last season’s Division Two runners up to take first knock as the Red and Blacks met this opposition for the first time since 2014 when both were in the Somerset Division of WEPL.
Winscombe were despatched in 37.5 overs as only Fraser with 29 and Bawden with a late salvo of 25 really applied themselves.
Luke Desave with 2-20 and Ian Hewson with 1-11 in seven overs each tied down the home side’s top order and then Will Derrick weighed in with 2-24 in six overs to see off the middle order.
Arron Campbell with 2-17 in seven overs and Jack Beal with 2-9 in 4.5 overs saw the end of the home team’s effort with the bat as Aks Latifi, asked to play as wicket keeper just ahead of the game, did a sterling job.
Wellington were home and hosed in under 25 overs as Tom Chambers smashed 54no with three sixes in 72 balls and Neil Hendy with 28 added 53 for Wellington’s opening wicket.
Arron Campbell and Mark Bray joined Chambers to get the job done as only Whittock and Bradley got a wicket for Winscombe as Wellington took a full 35 points from the game.
