Wellington 171-3 Bridgwater 87
Wellington saw that Bridgwater suffered a rare loss in Division A of the Somerset Cricket Board’s Indoor League last Sunday evening as the favourites for the title were well beaten by 84 runs after asking Wellington to bat first.
That Wellington posted such a hefty total was down to the rapid rate that Alex Sparks (52no in 26 balls), Jack Beal (27no in 11 balls), Arron Campbell (25no in 20 balls) and Ian Hewson (15 in 10 balls) all scored at.
Bridgwater sent down 44 extras too and this would see that they would need 172 to win at a mighty 14.33 runs per over.
As it was Wellington delivered a fine bowling effort too as Ian Hewson and Jack Beal saw Bridgwater slide to 20-3 through two Alex Sparks stumpings and an Arron Campbell run out.
Hill with 16 and Ranson with 35 lifted Bridgwater’s score to something more respectable, but Hewson and Beal came back to end matters through a Will Derrick catch and the rearrangement of the stumps; another Arron Campbell run out accounted for the sixth wicket.
Wellington are up to second and all of a sudden, despite been three points behind Bridgwater, have a far superior NRR (1.66 to -0.75) and if the Red and Blacks can win their final game of the season against Barrington on Sunday 17th December (7.05pm start) and North Petherton were to win over Bridgwater in a game that begins at 8.10pm then things will get interesting…
