Trull 2nd XI 171-9 Wellington 3rd XI 160
Wellington 3rd XI, too, have followed up their Somerset League promotion from this time last season with a decent showing in Division Seven South as they secured fourth place despite this eleven run loss at Trull last weekend to their 2nd XI who are divisional runners up for 2017.
Trull opted to bat first and their innings was one where Wellington held sway for large portions of it as Ben Wardell and Lee Nichol had the openers Seward and England back in the hutch with the score having only reached 13.
Richard Henwood with 3-27 in eight overs had the measure of Trull’s middle order despite M.Morrish and D.Morrish making 39 and 37 respectively in a fifth wicket stand of 63.
Ollie Beale has had a good season with his leg spin and took 1-36 in 8 overs as good catching by Lee Nichol saw him take two as well as taking 2-20 in eight overs.
Tom Shannon once more bowled well in this game having done well in July when Trull visited Wellington.
At 137-8 with Ryan Henwood taking 2-15 in four overs Wellington were in place to end the Trull innings, but Parsons with 22no and Melville with 12 added a frustrating stand for the home side’s ninth wicket and this made all the difference in the end.
Although Wellington lost a wicket early Tom Chambers, who would go on to make 51, and Ollie Beale, who made 12, consolidated matters and then Wellington pushed on with Richard Henwood joining Chambers.
At 47-3 skipper Des Campbell joined Chambers and they accelerated with Campbell making a good 33 with one six as Wellington were getting ready for a final push at the 172 they needed to win.
However it was the innocuous off spin of S.Morrish with 3-25 in five overs that saw the Wellington innings would fall just short as he got Chambers caught despite having got a lot of bat on the ball.
Lee Nichol with 17 gave it a good go, but his run out left last pair David Derrick and Jonty Ogilvie with too much to do and when Derrick was trapped LBW on the last ball of the game Trull had completed the season’s double over the Red and Blacks third string and took 33 points to Wellington’s seventeen.
