Huntspill and District 179 Wellington 2nd XI 25-0
Wellington 2nd XI are in third place again this week in Division Four of the Somerset League following this third drawn match of the season as they too saw their game, as was the case with their 1st and 3rd XI colleagues, washed away after the second innings of it was just underway.
A handy haul of points ahead of visits from the top two sides – Trull and Lympsham and Belvedere – in the next two home games – was good preparation and second place is achieveable with five games to go.
On winning the toss the home side were asked to take first knock and Jack Beal and Jake Nichol were in controlled form with the new ball as they let little go as Beal saw five overs go for just seven runs and Nichol collected two wickets in the seven overs he bowled on the day.
Rob Moysey and Ryan Adams took control of the middle overs with Adams taking 1-27 in nine good overs of seam and Moysey’s 2-48 in nine overs counteracting knocks of around 30 from each of Lillycrop and Osmant as Huntspill did not have anyone who scored in any great magnitude, but were solid all the same.
Macaulay Campbell and Ollie Beale collected three late wickets between them as the home side made it to 179 all out with a few balls to go.
With two catches Campbell took his personal catching haul to five in two days following on from three for the Sunday XI in their T20 match two evenings before.
Trevor Brooks with 15no and Miles Cave with 10no saw Wellington safely through the small part of their innings that was allowed to be played until the rain came down and ended matters for all concerned, so the game was drawn and points taken were twenty to twenty three in favour of Wellington’s second string.
