Wellington 3rd XI 162 Taunton St Andrews 4th XI 126

Wellington 3rd XI recorded their first win for a month in Division Seven South of the Somerset League last weekend when they beat Taunton St Andrews 4th XI at Wellington Playing Field last weekend in front of a good number of supporters from both Clubs in fine weather to move up to fourth place in the table.

TSA asked Wellington to bat first again this season and the Red and Blacks innings did not get away well as a wicket was lost to a run out with the score on six, but Simon Burrough, whose capital 55 bonded the innings, added 40 second wicket runs with Richard Henwood (14) and decent stands between Burrough and Ollie Wilkins and then Luke Vernon, whose 18 was very much required at the time, took Wellington past three figures and with just four wickets down the chance to push on was there, but left arm spinner Thomas with 3-24 brought his side back into the game.

Dave Luxton and Charlie Burrough added 29 very valuable seventh wicket runs for Wellington as 150 was passed and good play by last wicket pair Ryan Henwood and Tyler Fyfe saw that an eighth batting point was claimed as TSA’s young attack bowled both seam and spin well in the heat.

Charlie Burrough and Tyler Fyfe each got a wicket early on as TSA’s reply was jolted at 8-2, but a third wicket stand of 76 between I.Hockey and Pimm seemed to have sorted the visitors pursuit on the total required; a note of good wish goes to the TSA number three Thomas who was forced hurt when he was hit – he was tended to and was able to recuperate on the sidelines.

Pimm made 53 good runs and was well set when he found Wellington skipper Des Campbell at mid off to be caught off of Ollie Beale who took 3-47 in eight overs all told.

The second spells from Wellington’s seamers saw Charlie Burrough and Tyler Fyfe let nothing go for their side and saw that TSA stumbled from 103-3 to 126 all out as Burrough took 2-18 in eight overs and Fyfe took 1-12 in eight overs and this combined with a good earlier spell from Macaulay Campbell and two wickets from Richard Henwood ended the game with three overs unused and saw that Wellington took 33 points to TSA’s 16.
