Taunton St Andrews U11s 193 Wellington U11s 276
U11 captain James Weymouth took a remarkable 4 wickets in 4 balls, as Wellington’s youngest youth team got their first victory of the season in emphatic style, at Taunton St Andrews on Friday evening.
‘The Saints’ batting first found all the Wellington attack in accurate form as early on Thomas Gendall took 3 wickets and then further wickets for Thomas Hopkins and Ned Hillman kept the score in check.
The visitors were already on top when Oliver Hansard joined in the wicket taking, and then the over of a lifetime began for Weymouth as he sent down the 14th which began with a ‘dot’ ball and followed by a catch and 3 bowled out.
He finished with a dot, to end up with a quadruple maiden!
The captain wasn’t finished there as his last over yielded another wicket to finish with 3 overs, 2 maidens, 5 wickets for 6 runs and left St Andrews finished on 193.
The good work by the bowlers meant the batsmen could enjoy the evening and this they did with Hopkins smashing 5 boundaries as he and debutante Jack Ellis put on 35 runs.
Mathias Richardson also crossed the ropes 3 times and then finally Captain Marvel finished the job adding 21 runs with Hansard as a total of 276 was reached and an 83 run victory.
In this form, the boys can look forward to the visit of high riding Minehead next Friday evening (7th).
