Wellington U13s 177 – 4 Minehead U13s 87 – 6
Wellington’ss U13 team continued in fine form as they notched up a 90 run win when they travelled to Minehead on Sunday morning in the Taunton and District Youth League.
Opting to bat first with a strong squad the decision looked dubious as Alex Derbidge was out leg before without troubling the scorers and then Ben White was bowled just as he reached double figures.
Ollie Hunt then joined captain Ben Wardell and these two set about the home attack as first Wardell reached his retiring score of 30 which included 6 boundaries and Hunt the same including 3 boundaries.
Late order runs from Jacob Hurry, Monty Bayliss and Tom Shannon meant the hosts would need to score at very nearly 9 an over to chase down the 177.
With such a large total to defend Wardell rotated the bowling to give all players an opportunity to bowl and this resulted in wickets shared between Shannon (2 for 1), Wardell (1 for 8), Josh Cashmore (1 for 9) and probably the pick was Bayliss (2 for 5) as Minehead ended up 90 runs short on 87 – 6.
The boys will look to continue this fine form in the return fixture next Sunday,
