Wellington 3rd XI 151 Trull 2nd XI 154-5

At the half way point in the season Wellington 3rd XI finds itself half way in the Somerset League Division Seven South table as they swapped positions with Trull 2nd XI following their five wicket win last weekend in a game that was played at Sampford Arundel CC.

Choosing to bat first saw Dave Luxton and Simon Burrough hit the overpitched ball well off of Thomas when such came along, but his height counted in his favour and in taking 2-22 in eight good overs he saw that Wellington were in a spot of bother at 24-3 at one stage.

Ollie Wilkins played a fine knock of 22 and he was just set when he played on by getting a very thin deflection and lost a bail in the process – an annoying way to be out…

Richard Henwood and Des Campbell added 48 for the fifth wicket and this was getting the Red and Blacks third string towards three figures when both players were out just short of this statistic for 19 and 25 respectively.

Luke Vernon and Ryan Henwood played sensibly to add a good 29 run stand for the seventh wicket, but when they were split up and another wicket was lost at 128-8 Wellington still had quite a few overs to use up; they got to within three or so overs of using their allocation through Vernon’s well made 22 and the fourteen runs he added with David Derrick who made 13 and the nine runs that Derrick added with Tom Shannon took Wellington past 150.

D.Morrish with 3-18 was in good form with the ball for Trull.

Trull’s batting effort was a solid one and they got over the line with five wickets and eight overs in hand despite Richard Henwood starting with three successive maidens.

Seward with 23, England with 39 and Woods with 31 set the platform despite late wickets for Tyler Fyfe, Ollie Wilkins and Tom Shannon meaning that the visitors had to ensure they played with caution so as not to lose out on claiming maximum points which they did achieve to Wellington’s 12.
