Wellington Sunday XI 242 Stogumber Sunday XI 243-9

Wellington Sunday XI were involved in another game that went all the way to the wire in the last over for a second successive week as they saw West Somerset League side Stogumber get over the line by one wicket with one ball to spare in a high scoring friendly match at their picturesque ground last weekend.

Arron Campbell decided to take first knock on a dry, hard pitch and saw Ben Evett continue his fine current form with the bat as he blasted 49 with two sixes in a batting effort that saw saw Wellington score at a fast rate, but by the time that the score had reached 91 there were six wickets down.

Campbell added 75 seventh wicket runs with Rob Moysey (76no) as control was regained by the Red and Blacks as Campbell made 36 good runs and all the time Moysey was closing in on and then going past a half century as good late innings stands with David Derrick, Tyler Fyfe and Will Derrick realised 76 runs for Wellington’s last three wickets.

J.Jenkins with 4-29 and Chilcott with 3-38 were Stogumber’s best bowlers.

Stogumber’s innings was an ebb and flow event as Buchanan and J.Lane started well, but were both out as Ben Evett took a leg side catch off of Tyler Fyfe to remove Buchanan for 23 and a good catch from Lewis Sparks that had gone high up off of Will Derrick saw the back for Lane for 27.

Ollie Beale got working towards a five wicket haul as his leg spin proved to be a profitable weapon for Wellington, but the home side were never going to give up the chase and B.Rexworthy with 25 was going well until he was run out by Macaulay Campbell’s direct hit from the boundary.

Stogumber skipper D.Godfrey’s punishing 50 gave his side a real chance of a win, but when Rob Moysey’s quicker ball slipped through and bowled him the game had swung back towards Wellington and at 197-9 it was there for the winning by the Red and Blacks, but N.Lane found the boundary often and with last man Z.Rexworthy holding firm and then playing some shots of his own the required total was been whittled down and the last over dawned with one run needed and it was achieved off the penultimate ball to give Stogumber a narrow win in what had been a good game.
