Taunton St Andrews Under 13s 75 Wellington Under 13s 78 – 1

Callum Hendy put in a fine individual performance as Wellington U13’s gained revenge for last week’s defeat, and in the process took St Andrews 100 % record in The Taunton and district youth league as the sun finally shone on Sunday morning.

The visitors took first use of a good wicket, at The Playing Field, but runs were hard to come by as Olly Hunt and Hendy bowled a tight line and backed up by good ground fielding.

Wellington were soon on top – Hendy got the 1st wicket in the 6th over and when captain Ben Wardell and Ben White joined the attack further pressure was imposed as wickets fell steadily and a final total of 75 all out in the final over left the hosts in the box seat.

Hendy finished with 2 for 9 from 3.3 overs, Wardell 2 for 7 from 4 and a superb spell of 4 overs 4 for 14 from Ben White was no more than they all deserved from a disciplined attack.

Hendy and Alex Derbidge batted sensibly in the reply and took the score past 40 in the 6th over before Derbidge lost his off stump when Hendy then upped the tempo to pass his retiring score of 30.

White and Wardell, then took Wellington beyond the required score with half the overs unused for an emphatic 9 wicket victory.
