Wellington 3rd XI 192-6 Long Sutton 2nd XI 166-8
Wellington 3rd XI started their weekend’s double header of Somerset League Division Seven South action with a game at Wellington School against Long Sutton’s second string and a batting effort that recovered from a shaky start and a cohesive and effective bowling effort delivered a third win in four for the side.
Having lost four wickets with the score having reached the forties it needed some consolidation and that came from Thom Trott who made a cultured 58no and this then blossomed when he was joined by Callum Hendy (20) and then Charlie Burrough (21no) and the two fifty-plus run partnerships that these three players enjoyed propelled Wellington to 192-6 at tea.
M.Holland, D.Hodges and Chislett led a decent early Long Sutton effort with the bat as they made 30, 39 and 43 between them, but once they were out the stream ran out of the visitors innings and they ground things out to make a respectable 166-8 when stumps were drawn.
Richard Henwood with two wickets and one for each of Charlie Burrough. Thom Trott and Tyler Fyfe saw the seamers get a reward and Ollie Beale’s leg spin saw him take three wickets late on as the side took 32 points with them to Sutton’s 14.
