Somerset Stragglers 234-9 Wellington Midweek XI 197-8
Wellington Midweek XI entertained Somerset Stragglers in their first all afternoon game for a couple of seasons and a good, competitive game saw the visitors take the honours by 37 runs last Wednesday afternoon.
Stragglers opted to bat on winning the toss and found the going tough as Lewis Sparks let just ten runs go in five overs and Kayden Hine – taking time out of keeping wicket – and Tyler Fyfe reduced the nomads to 81-3, but they cashed in on a dropped catch to see Bellamy make 77 and Weatherill 41 as they added 78 for the fourth wicket.
Skipper Jack Beal showed his good catching prowess once more with a fine boundary catch on the run that saw the end of Bellamy’s good hand.
Arron Campbell with 4-29 in eight overs of controlled off spin wrested the middle overs back to Wellington and with Parkman’s 19 not out adding to Stragglers efforts with the bat the Red and Blacks would need 235 to win as two stumpings from Jacob Hurry gave Rob Moysey his double dose of success with the ball.
Arron Campbell struck two sixes early on for Wellington, but when he was caught for 19 the early impetus was lost somewhat.
Mark Bray had hit some nice shots for four when Parkman (3-27) claimed his wicket and at 44-4 Wellington were in a spot of bother, but Aks Latifi with 26 and Kayden Hine with 35 added 64 fifth wicket runs in good style as Stragglers did not build on their early successes until later.
At 118-7 Wellington were again losing ground in the game, but a splendid effort with the bat from Jacob Hurry saw him make 19 and add 57 fine runs for the eighth wicket with Rob Moysey who made a capital 43no and along with Lewis Sparks the game was seen out for Wellington after Hurry’s dismissal with an unbroken ninth wicket stand of 22.
