Brompton Ralph U11s 240 – 5 Wellington U11s 212 – 6
Wellington U11s played some great cricket when they lost at Brompton Ralph on Friday evening in the Taunton and District Youth League.
Fielding first Oliver Hansard and Max Brodie took a wicket each in their bowling spell then James Weymouth, Lucy Hill and Ned Hillman bowled tightly leaving the hosts on 202 at the half way stage.
The villagers had kept their two best pairs until last and accelerated in the second half of the innings to reach 240–5 at the close.
Weymouth finished with 2-4 from his spell.
Youngsters Oliver Hutchings and Jonah Richardson were first at the crease in the reply and found runs difficult to come by as did Jonah’s older sibling Mathias who paired with Lucy Hill and saw the total to 207 half way through the visitors innings.
Continued tight bowling tied down Hillman and Hansard, which meant when captain Weymouth and Brodie arrived as last pair with a mountain to climb.
The team can be well pleased with their performance as five of the eight were trying league cricket for the first time.
