Wellington 128-8 Kilve 129-7

A smart use of social media saw that Wellington were able to add an extra game to their pre-season schedule when a side composed of 2nd and 3rd XI players travelled to Somerset League Division Three Club Kilve following their Twitter based request for a game and the home side edged a compelling low scoring game last Saturday.

Kilve asked Wellington to bat first and their opening attack of Clemenson and Girling let little go, but only realised one wicket in their combined spell.

Rob Moysey with a capital 39 was the core score of the Wellington innings as he added 66 for the second wicket with Mark Salter who made a solid 22, but run scoring was hard on a surface of uneven bounce.

Ben Evett with 12 and Des Campbell with 13 worked hard for their runs and a bright stand for the ninth wicket of 12 from Charlie Burrough and Will Derrick saw that Wellington had made 128-8 with Payne’s 3-15 in six overs been Kilve’s best offering with the ball.

Lott with 48 hit the ball hard and a long way on occasions as Kilve recovered from losing two wickets; one as Mark Salter took a good slip catch off of Will Derrick and then a run out came to pass at 42-2.

Lewis Sparks joined the attack and bowled very well indeed to take 1-29 in 7.4 overs as Kilve were put under pressure as they passed three figures.

Wickets for Macaulay Campbell and Rob Moysey gave Wellington hope of a famous win as the home side’s middle order got into a bit of a tangle, but Payne and Rowsell saw them home in the end.
