Sampford Arundel 75 Wellington 76-2
Wellington have set up a Somerset Cricket Board Indoor League Division A title decider with WEPL Premier One side Bridgwater after a 4 wicket win over derby opponents Sampford Arundel last weekend writes Alex Sparks.
A good bowling and fielding display saw Wellington restrict Sampford Arundel to 75 before knocking off the runs in the 7th over.
After losing the toss for a fourth consecutive game Wellington, this time, were invited to field.
They got off to the perfect start with Ian Hewson (1-37) dismissing Dave Kittow with the 3rd ball of the innings.
After this, it was the Jack Beal show as he ripped out the heart of the Sampford Arundel batting line-up.
First he had Vince Milton caught down the leg side by Sparks, then Seb Coe was caught by Neil Hendy trying to go for another maximum on the back wall and then he bowled Tyler Fyfe to finish with 3-15 from his 3 overs.
With Neil Hendy (1-12) also getting in on the act with the wicket of Laurence Burns this left Sampford Arundel at 47-5.
It was then up to Sam Loud to try and steer Sampford to a competitive score.
Loud batted well and provided solid resistance before he was caught and bowled by Arron Campbell (1-9) for 39.
Wellington began their run chase facing the on-loan Tyler Fyfe who bowled tidily to start with.
Alex Sparks and Arron Campbell ensured Wellington got off to a good start in their run chase bringing up the 50 partnership in the 4th over.
Sparks retired at 25 before Campbell was dismissed for 18.
With the platform set it was left to Mark Bray (11 not out) to ensure there were no mishaps and see Wellington over the line.
Wellington go into the final game of the season against Bridgwater knowing that victory in this game will seal the league title.
Both teams have 100% win records so far in the tournament so an exciting finish is in prospect.
This game takes place on Sunday 18th December at 6.00pm with the winners going forward to represent Somerset in the National Club Indoor Competition as Wellington did in 2014-2015.
