Glastonbury 2nd XI 189-5 Wellington 2nd XI 190-5

Wellington 2nd XI saw off bottom side Glastonbury 2nd XI on the road last weekend and collected thirty Somerset League Division Five points as a result and continued their tussle with Trull for the title who pulled two points on the Red and Blacks second string with a win of their own and this matter will go all the way.

For a side with all the issues that they had this season the hosts batted well as Graham and Locke added 94 opening wicket runs as Wellington struggled to make a breakthrough, despite Lee Nichol’s accurate nine overs that cost just 32 runs.

The breakthrough came when Wellington skipper Jake Nichol caught Graham for 46 off of Neil Hendy who took 1-18 in seven more accurate and controlled overs of medium pace.

Macaulay Campbell continued the good form he had shown the week before with the ball taking 1-18 in nine excellent overs as he and Hendy bossed the middle overs of the Glastonbury innings.

Jake Nichol removed Locke for 59 and T.Hall for 33 on his way to taking 2-46 in nine overs and Ben Evett took Wellington’s last wicket to fall and it would be 190 to win.

Mark Salter – recovered from his calf issue from the week before – and Aks Latifi opened for Wellington and had 14 on the board before Salter was bowled for 11.

Ben Evett – in good batting form at this time – cracked 17 and was out with the score at 52-2 to I.Morland who took 3-19 in five overs and was, curiously, not used again.

Latifi made a decent 26 and with 11 from Kevin Crout Wellington were 71-4 and this was the point for Neil Hendy and Ryan Adams to take their side to victory with a stand of 116 for the fifth wicket as they each made 56 (not out in Hendy’s case) as they blitzed the Glastonbury attack with two knocks of high quality.

The job was nearly done by this partnership, but Adams was out with three needed and the win was completed by Lewis Sparks and it is onwards for the side with two to play.
