Budleigh Salterton Sunday XI 275-7 Wellington Sunday XI 193

Wellington Sunday XI visited Devon League Division A side Budleigh Salterton last weekend and an impressive knock from 13 year old wicketkeeper/batsman Tom Brooks was the highlight of a good game.

On a hot day with a fast outfield Budleigh prospered with Heath’s 66 been full of fine sweep shots and this built on opener Robinson’s 49.

Wellington stuck to their task as Macaulay Campbell showed a good hand with the ball, especially in the second spell he had, taking 2-40 in eight overs.

Jack Beal was unlucky to go wicketless as he bowled with pace first up.

Nick Crossing with 1-45 had a hand in the opening wicket for his side as he caught T.Oxland well low down.

Wickets for skipper Arron Campbell and Zandre Swartz saw that Budleigh ended on 275-7 in 40 overs as Marley with 35 quickfire runs late on topped off their decent effort with the bat.

Wellington scored well with the bat, but lost wickets often as well.

A fifth wicket stand of 49 between Des Campbell and Tom Brooks was the best one of the game for Wellington as Campbell made 25.

All the time Brooks was getting set and playing really well as he closed in on a richly deserved half-century and it was achieved as part of some late innings stands as Macaulay Campbell, David Derrick and Tyler Fyfe gave him excellent support that saw him have the chance to get to the milestone; in the end he was last man out for 65 in the last over.

Nick Crossing with 19 and Jack Beal with 17 had, earlier, made good knocks for their side.
