Frome 140 Wellington 141-7
This could be a crucial win for Wellington in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League last weekend when they saw off closely placed Frome by three wickets at home last weekend and in collecting eighteen points drew to within six points of the bottom safety place with six games to go.
Frome opted to bat on winning the toss and found Adam Rimell in good order with the ball as he took the opening three wickets to fall as he combined with skipper Alex Sparks, who took three catches all told, to get amongst the Frome top order.
Luke Desave and Ian Hewson were accurate despite going wicketless and this laid the platform for Rob Moysey with 3-27 in ten overs and Neil Hendy with 3-19 in eight overs to reduce Frome to 115-9 with only Potter with 33 really showing resilience with the bat.
A last wicket stand of 25 between Watts and M.Sanger held Wellington up somewhat, but only saw that Frome used up all but one of their 50 over allocation to be all out for 140.
There was a wicket for Dom Drew as well.
Wellington lost a wicket in the first over before Nick Crossing and Alex Sparks added 30 second wicket runs to see that just over one hundred were needed with eight wickets in hand as Crossing was caught for 12.
Sparks made a crisp 42 and with Luke Desave complimenting this with 17 half the required runs were on the board before Desave was bowled.
There were a few jitters when, with the score at 109, skipper Sparks was out stumped and with 32 still needed there was work to do, but Neil Hendy’s solid 18 got the side to within six of victory and the game was won when Dom Drew hit the only ball he faced for four.
