Wellington 3rd XI 168-4 All Saints 128

Wellington 3rd XI completed their second double of the season when they took 33 points from their visit to All Saints – based between Chard and Axminster – last weekend and in a game where run scoring was tough the side came away with a 40 run win.

Choosing to bat first Des Campbell and Richard Henwood looked to build on their huge opening stand from the previous week against Ilminster and they added 42 in solid fashion before Henwood, having made 20, crashed a short wide ball to Wallace in the covers off of Bryant.

Campbell had made it to 27 against a decent bowling attack before been caught behind at 67-2.

Thom Trott made a robust 66no as he batted for a long time in testing circumstances with the ball rising at times; this backdrop was a tough one and makes his knock all the more of a quality one.

Dave Luxton with 14 and good inputs from Ryan Henwood and Ollie Beale with 16no saw Wellington to a decent 168-4 at tea.

After the break Charlie Burrough and Tom Perry took the new ball for Wellington and when they had concluded their opening bursts with it All Saints were 25-2 in ten overs and behind the rate.

It was then that home skipper M.Nunns unleashed some fierce hitting to make 43 and with Wallace’s 23 at the other end keeping going too the Saints score had got to 90 in 20 overs and Wellington had to work hard to claw their way back in.

Will Derrick’s caught and bowled effort saw Wallace was out and the first of four catches for Ryan Henwood saw the end of Nunns as he was caught at long on.

His departure saw the home side crumble to 128 all out as Charlie Burrough and Tom Perry came back for a second stint and took final figures of 3-18 and 2-20 in eight overs respectively.

Richard Henwood’s five over burst realised 3-7 and this was enough to seal the win and keep Wellington’s third string in second place in Division Eight South of the Somerset League.
