Trull 187-8 Wellington 2nd XI 164
Despite suffering their first defeat of the season at the hands of their nearest challengers in Division Five of the Somerset League last weekend Wellington 2nd XI are still 27 points clear of Trull and are well set for the run in.
A good bowling effort was served up by the Red and Blacks second string as Jake and Lee Nichol hit the right lines again as their combined eighteen overs cost just 47 runs as the brothers once more did a fine job with the new ball; Jake broke the Trull opening stand of 33 when he trapped Blundell LBW for 12.
Trull’s total was based on Sapey’s 47 and solid middle order offerings in the twenties as they made it to 187-8 at tea.
Spin was prominent for Wellington as Rob Moysey and Ben Evett took five wickets between them and with one for Neil Hendy a run rate of around 4 an over would do it.
Trevor Brooks and Mark Salter added 34 opening runs for Wellington in good style before Brooks was caught off of Thomas for ten.
Salter – with 20 – played well until becoming an LBW victim of Hayward who took 3-23 in nine overs.
Ollie Wilkins and Neil Hendy took a score of 58-3 and took it over the three figure mark at which point Wilkins was bowled for 13 and 84 more were needed.
Hendy was playing a great hand and was two away from a half century when he was trapped LBW by the dangerous Hayward.
Hendy was out with the score on 127-6 and this rapidly became 139-9 and the game was as good as up, but a spirited stand of 25 for the last wicket between Ben Evett and Jake Nichol got Wellington two more batting points as they were all out for 164 with two balls to spare as they took 16 points to Trull’s 34.
