Wellington 3rd XI 276-2 Ilminster 3rd XI 180

Wellington 3rd XI recorded an overwhelming win in Division Eight South of the Somerset League last weekend when a large opening stand of 260 created the pathway to success and and the season’s double over their Ilminster counterparts.

It was Des Campbell and Richard Henwood who were the players involved in this stand as they were both imperious in their play and dominated the Ilminster attack at all times as Campbell made 138 and Henwood 81 as he had to call it time on this score having had a twinge from the hamstring injury he is carrying.

Miles Cave, Tom Brooks and Thom Trott secured late runs to see that Wellington had made an impressive 276-2 in 40 overs at tea as Warry was the only Ilminster bowler who had any success.

Ilminster – to their credit – did not just roll over when they batted and still had it in them to make 180 as Crouch with 54 and Lee with 38 played well, but Wellington were always dangerous with the ball as Charlie Burrough with two wickets and Tom Perry with three did as required from a new ball pairing.

Ollie Beale and Tyler Fyfe did well with mid-innings wickets and it was Richard Henwood who ended matters with under three overs to spare to give the side full points and second place once more.
