Huntspill and District 159 Wellington 2nd XI 163-3

Wellington 2nd XI recorded a seven wicket home win over the only side who they did not get the better of in the first half of their Somerset League Division Five season following an open day tie as Huntspill and District were the visitors to Courtland Road last weekend.

Huntspill decided to bat first and got away well enough as Lillycrop and Osmant with 35 and 46 made the bulk of their runs.

Early on Huntspill had made runs at a rate that concerned Wellington, but skipper Rob Moysey with 3-16 in nine overs and fellow leg spinner Ben Evett going for just 21 in the same number of overs tamed things down mid-innings.

More controlled bowling in the form of Matt Bettles and his left arm spin (1-32 in nine) and Neil Hendy’s medium pace (3-24 in nine) saw that Huntspill were all out with an over to spare.

The Red and Blacks second string’s pathway to victory was smooth as Trevor Brooks and Mark Salter added 111 runs first up as they made capital knocks of 57 and 59 respectively.

Knocks of 13 from Kevin Crout and 11no from Neil Hendy sealed the deal for Wellington and they took 35 points once more.
