Deane Diamonds 123-9 Wellington Warriors 90

Wellington Warriors – the Red and Blacks Under 19s side – suffered a 33 run defeat at last season’s Somerset Champion side Deane Diamonds (Taunton Deane CC) in this Somerset Cricket Board Under 19s T20 Blast Group Six game when their batting showing fell a little short of the target set.

Wellington had a great start when skipper Arron Campbell trapped Deane opener and former Wellington player Tenny Harlow LBW in the first over and with another inspiring bowling show Sam Whitefield claimed four wickets including two caught and bowled efforts to reduce Deane to 56-6 in eleven overs.

That the home side got to the final total that they did was down to Calvin Harrison with 31no, but Wellington kept taking wickets as Jack Beal, Nick Crossing and Tom Perry got one apiece to see that their side would need 124 to win.

Arron Campbell and Ollie Wilkins took eight off the first over before Henry Mellor’s wicket maiden pegged back the opening over’s progress.

Campbell with 19, Sam Whitefield with 11 and Jack Beal with 17 got Wellington into the fifties, but all had gone by the time the score had reached 51.

Miles Cave was Wellington’s primary contributor with 21 from then on as Deane’s Ben Thomas with 2-8 in four overs did well mid-innings and Sam Underdown’s 4-14 saw that the 2015 champion side got home by 33 runs with three balls unused.
