Wellington 2nd XI 104-9 Belvedere 67
Wellington 2nd XI are enjoying a 25 point lead at the top of Division Five of the Somerset League as a result of winning away to their nearest challengers Belvedere in Weston Super Mare last weekend as they edged a low scoring game.
Having been put into bat Wellington, to their credit, saw out their 45 over allocation, but it was tough work as only four players made it to double figures.
Rob Moysey’s 18 saw him be third out for 44 and Neil Hendy added a solid 13 in the middle order followed up the skipper’s effort.
Mark Salter’s 22 – the top score of the Wellington knock – contained three fours and this, along with a breezy 15 from Matt Bettles, saw Wellington just about get to three figures in the last over as Will Derrick and Tyler Fyfe saw that Belvedere did not get all ten bowling points on offer.
The home side were disciplined in their effort with the ball as McCrea with 2-18, Neate with 1-18 and Neville with 3-18 – all from nine overs each – did well for Belvedere.
Belvedere started well enough with a 22 run opening stand from Crockett and M.Hosey and this gave no indication of the horror show to come; this was ended when Tyler Fyfe took a catch off of Adam Rimell to remove Crockett for 8.
Rimell took one more wicket – a caught and bowled – and Neil Hendy took two, including top scorer M.Hosey for 28, to make Belvedere 59-4 with 20 overs left to make 46 to win.
They mustered just 8 more runs in losing six wickets as Rob Moysey with 3-6 in eight overs and Will Derrick with 3-4 in 2.3 overs dismantled the home side to bring home 30 points to Belvedere’s 12.
Wellington had put in a good show in the field and had defended their small total with aplomb.
